Patient rights and responsibilities
A partnership in your care
Good care works best as a partnership. This page sets out what you can expect from us every time you visit, and what we ask of you in return. It applies to everyone who uses the practice, whether in person or by telehealth.
Your rights
As a patient of Wilmer Medical Service, you have the right to:
- Respect and safety. Be treated with dignity and courtesy, in a safe and welcoming environment, whatever your background, beliefs or circumstances.
- Clear information. Understand your condition, your options, and what each option involves, so you can make informed decisions about your care. You can ask questions at any time, and we will answer in plain language.
- Knowing the cost. Be told about fees before your appointment where possible, and ask about costs at any time. See our fees page.
- Privacy and confidentiality. Have your personal and health information handled carefully and kept confidential. Our privacy policy explains how.
- Access to your health information. Ask to see the health information we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything that is wrong.
- A second opinion. Seek another opinion about your care at any time. Your doctor can help arrange this if you wish.
- An interpreter. Use a free interpreter through TIS National on 131 450. Let us know when you book so we can arrange it.
- A voice. Give feedback or make a complaint without it affecting your care in any way. See feedback and complaints.
What we ask of you
To help us care for you well, we ask that you:
- Give us accurate and complete information about your health, including your history, medicines, allergies and any other care you are receiving.
- Tell us when things change — your contact details, your Medicare or concession details, your medicines, or your health.
- Arrive on time for appointments, and let us know as early as you can if you cannot come, so the time can go to another patient.
- Ask questions if anything is unclear. It helps us make sure you leave with what you need.
- Treat our team and other patients with the same courtesy and respect we show you. Verbal or physical abuse, foul language or rudeness toward any member of our team is not tolerated.
